Nikkor 50-200 VR and 50-200

  • I heard that the non-VR 55-200 produces a better picture quality as when you switch on the VR button, somewhat it reduces the quality of the picture.

    Is it true?
Cause I'm planning to buy one

  • I have shot both. The VR version of the lens is superior in every way.

    Here's another person's opinion: http://www.bythom.com/55200lens.htm

  • No, and yes. VR moves one of the lens elements. That lens element is there regardless so no quality difference results for different glass or anything like that.

The only things that can happen is that there's not enough motion to correct. In these cases the VR often stuffs up and adds motion. So if you use a tripod, turn it off.
