I know this question is asked thousands of times all over the internet, but no matter where i look i cant find a straight answer: Will my medical records be checked when applying for the royal marines, without reason?
I have very mild asthma which will probably stop me from joining, however i don't need inhalers, and take part in hard physical sports regularly. I just want a chance to complete the training and i know the asthma won't hold me back. So if i just keep this to myself will i be found out? Hndreds of people in the army, marines etc have asthma so dont worry. As long as you can do phys with or without and inhaler you will be OK. like i said hundreds of people have asthma in the forces.
Definitive answer can be found out at the careeers office or when you join.I've spent the last thirty minutes trying to find you an answer and the only thing I could come up with is to either call or email the MOD and ask them to send you the medical standards for enlisment. Don't tell them you have had asthma or they might just blow you off.The marines are the same as the Army, they will screen you for it, and basically you need to be free of an inhaler for four years. Medical history is requested for everyone, no exceptions, otherwise you'd get people with glass eyes and flalse legs trying to get in!
They take everyone on a case by case basis, so if you don't try you'll never know and you'll regret that for the rest of your life, but be prepared for the knock back.No. There is no data base for your medical history unless you were in another branch in the military. Even then they lose crap all the time. But if your asthma flares up in boot camp you'll most likely be discharged. I don't look down on you for trying, only if it gets too hard and you pull the asthma card as an escape out. Good luck.Keith D has hit the nail on the head.
The Marines will request your medical records as your "GP" will be the medical officer. Once they find out about your Asthma they'll discharge you.
It's very important that you tell them of your medical history, in training you'll be exposed to CS gas and will have to do respirator drills. you have no idea what this could do to your condition....they do though.
If it flares up you'll get a medical discharge, but won't be bale to claim from the MoD because you didn't declare your condition.
Good luck there is no answer available but if it were to be a problem later you could be charged and courtmartialed Yes they will check them to make sure you are not covering up any illnesses. My ex boyfriend is an ex marine and i went with him when he went for his medical tests, anything wrong with you they will not accept you i'm afraid. I sat in that room watching people going in and coming out crying, they stopped a lad with asthma, one that was colourblind and another who had it on his medical records as suffering from migraines. They stopped my ex from going through because he had tried to kill himself 5 years previously, and now (as far as i know) he is appealing the decision and is having trouble getting back in even after having had a psychological examination stating he is of sound mind, and despite him already having been in the royal marines!
They are the best of the best, they have to be picky. But good luck, i have a lot of respect for people willing to fight for the country xxLying to get into the military is a first class ticket to a dishonorable discharge (or whatever you call it in the UK)jusrt dont tell them about the asthma.. i have it to.. but i havent used an inhaler since i was like 10... if they say something about it.. just say.." oh i havent used an inhaler for years.. i dont consider myself having asthma" ... most likely they wont even find out that u ever had it..... and yea.. dont have an asthma attack when ur in.. or a DD is in orderyes your medical records will be checked as they will be requested.
it is a stiff medical.
were you ever given any inhalers on a prescription.
fact is you would be at risk and maybe put at risk those around you if you were to have a asthma attack.
sorry but fact is it will be a problem. Not quite true that the Army have your own GP do your medical. The proceedure is that you are given a form called an RG8 - you complete it (mostly by ticking boxes) you then take it to your GP who confirms (or otherwise your answers) the GP then sends it (sealed) to the recruiting office who send it to the selection centre - where it is screened - any Asthma in the last 5 years (with or without inhaler) will result in the application being deferred till the 5 year point is reached since the last treatment / attack. If there has been any asthma (5 years ago or more) then the RG8 will be cleared for the potential recruit to turn up at the Selection centre - there he will undergo a medical from an Army Medical Officer and (if he has a history of asthma) he will undergo additional testing. I imagine the RM system can't be that different.I worked in a recruiting office for a while and yes they will write to your GP. To be honest you cant say you wont be affected by asthma as you've never worn a respirator and RM training is likely to be far more extreme than any sporting activities you take part in currently.
You say that you know an attack could pose a risk to yourself and others but you are prepared to take that chance - I wouldn't want to have someone with that attitude alongside me.
Best advice is to come clean - if you are still undergoing treatment for Asthma then the answer will most likely be a no. Really the only person that can make that decision is the medic though - the recruiting staff have nothing to do with it.the chance is they will check i have a friend who applied for the army and the docter gave him the go ahead to try selection but the army wouldnt let him, simply because if you have an asthma attack during th test and die it will look awful for them that they let you try to attempt it
im sorryacceptance to all the armed forces is subject to a medical.it will not take a military doctor a nano second to find ot you are asthmatic.#If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
